MT WASHINGTON QUILTING BEES

Mt. Washington Quilting Bees (MWQB) was formed on January 6, 1983. The first meeting was held in the home of Thelma Ellaby. The group created bed coverings, wall hangings and pillows.

By 1986, the Bees' club roaster consisted of 19 members.  As the membership grew the Bees meetings were held in a variety of places including the Mt Washington City Hall, the Senior Center and the Fire Department. In 2003, the club roaster had 21 members.  In 2014, the Bees membership consisted of 54 memvers who are all ages, backgrounds and skill level. We currently have close to 70 members.

Over the years the membership has agreed that the sharing of ideas and the camaraderie are the most important part of the group. Members learn new skills from television programs, seminars and books and then share and teach each other. Of course, there is also a lot of socializing and delicious food, too.

In addition to the following information about our activities our by-laws are posted on the website. Membership directories are distibuted through email. Name tags are available at the sign in table at the meetings. We encourage all members to use their creativity and make a name tag that reflects their style.

Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month. The business meetings are held in February, May, August and November. At these meetings there will be discussion of any issues which needs votes.  From 10:00 to 12:00 we have a teaching class where a member teaches a skill to those interested. At Noon, the President begins the meeting and asks for a devotion before any announcements or business begins.  On business meeting days, a treasury report will be given and minutes will be recorded for later email distribution to members.

After this meeting, there will be a door prize drawing, but one must be wearing their name tag to win!  Show and Tell is always a ooooo and ahhhhhh moment as members display their talents with pride.

Membership dues are $20.00 annually and are due in September. This money is used for expenses such as rent, supplies for charitiy quilts, postage, copies, etc.

The third Wednesday of the month we have Play Day when members gather to work on their personal projects and socialize.

In addition to our monthly meetings and Play Days, we also keep busy with Quilters Day Out, day trips and charitible activities. Each member agrees to make either a quilt, pillowcases or small bag for walkers/wheelchairs for our personal charitible contribution each year. Twice a year we schedule an all day retreat at the Bullitt County Extension Office which includes all three meals provided by all in attendance.
