Ky Cover Lovers Quilt Guild is alive and well! We continue to have
visitors at our main monthly meetings; many of whom decide to become members that same day. Each new member brings her own
personality, ideas, and shares friendship with us.
Our website is www.KentuckyCoverLoversQuiltGuild.weebly.com.
There you will find numerous photos of show & tell quilts and “hug
quilts” that our members continue to make for donating to Hosparus.
Hosparus nurses then give them to their patients; we’ve heard that
patients and their families consider them very special & much appreciated. Making hug quilts is our main charitable project, though
smaller ones do come up from time to time.
KCL meets at 10 a.m. on the 4th Monday of each month in Shelbyville, KY, at the Stratton Community Center, 215 Washington St. That’s when we
have our main meeting with an agenda, show and tell, refreshments and
a planned program. Recent programs have included a trunk show of KHQS
Challenge Quilts presented by Donna Duncan, a demo of making ever-popular T-Shirt Quilts by member Annie Schindler plus a demo of a unique appliqué table
runner made by member Barbara Payne. Randy McCarty of Lagrange, Ky, treated us to a wonderful showing of many of his impressive quilts at our recent June meeting and potluck luncheon.
On the second Monday of each month our guild has a “Sit & Sew” at
the Shelby County Extension Office, 1117 Frankfort Rd, in Shelbyville.
Members work on piecing hug quilts or bring their own personal projects. This “Sit & Sew” runs from 10 a.m. to about 2 p.m. though
members & visitors can come and go at their convenience.
A retreat that lasts 3 to 4 days is planned each September with loads of
fun, lots of sewing and an overfilled snack table. Our retreat spot has
plenty of space for relaxing & walking outdoors. Each Spring the guild
takes a bus outing, usually to a quilt show.
Guild dues are $27 annually which includes membership as a Shelby
County Homemaker.
